You can play the PS4 version on PS5 and not experience FieldSENSE. The easiest path to upgrade from PS4 to PS5 is Dual Entitlement. Sports games tend to go down in price as the season carries on, so it’s possible you may be able to snag a Standard Edition of the PS5 version for cheaper. That said, in six months or so, we will likely see a price drop on Madden 23 as the NFL season will have already begun. You’ll still be able to play the PlayStation 4 version of Madden 23 on your PS5 but you won’t get any of the next-gen benefits like FieldSENSE. But if you don’t think you’ll be upgrading to a PS5 in the next six months or so, then you might just want to wait and buy the Standard Edition on PS4. If you’re currently playing on PS4 and plan on getting a PS5 in the near future, then the All Madden Edition might be worth it.
So while you are saving money, I still wouldn’t call it a “free” upgrade as you are still paying more than just the Standard Edition on its own. If you were to buy them both separately, you’d be paying $130, so about $30 more than the All Madden Edition costs. Now let’s do some math, Madden 23 Standard Edition costs $69.99 on PS5 and $59.99 on PS4. That’s a hefty price to pay for access to both console generations, although you do also get 4,600 Madden Points to use in Ultimate Team or on you avatar. To recap, in order to upgrade from PS4 to PS5, you need to buy the All Madden Edition which is priced at $99.99. That means if you purchase Madden NFL 23 Standard Edition on PS4 and upgrade to PS5 later, you would need to purchase the PS5 version of the game to play. Here’s the thing though, Dual Entitlement is only available for those who purchase the Madden NFL 23 All Madden Edition, as it’s not included with the Standard Edition of this year’s game. While EA is still offering Dual Entitlement for Madden 23 and claims it to be free, there’s somewhat of a catch. Once again, a limited supply on PlayStation 5 consoles have us talking about Dual Entitlement and how you’ll be able to upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 if you haven’t yet purchased a new-gen console in the future if you purchase Madden 23 on last-gen today.
